2003 Annual & Awards Exhibition
Exhibition description

Every work in this exhibition has a story to tell: about its start as a sculptor’s philosophy, about the materials and techniques and the hands that shaped it. These are objects made by the person who had the idea. Sculpture shows the forces, both conscious and unconscious, at work to bring it from imagination to real form, space, colour and shadow. All were made to speak a visual language of ideas and all invite you to look and understand that language. Sculpture as an art form stands as a counterpoise to the plenty - surfeit even - brought to us by anonymous mass production. When you heed a sculpture’s story you are in conversation with another individual - this is the offering of a fellow human being and is there for you to value for its meaning, for its individual form and for the delight in an existence brought about by human hands.

I take pleasure and pride in inviting you to enjoy the 2003 exhibition of sculpture by members of the Association of Sculptors of Victoria.
