   Sculpture Description

A continuing thread in my practice is inspired by what I consider most valuable in life and for me, seeds of all living things are the most precious gifts. I have always had a love of detail and fascination for the minutiae of life often passed by. Microscopic imaging has altered the way in which we view the world and has opened our minds to unimaginable wonders before unseen. The forms of my work are inspired by the Stupa, originating from Tumuli, ancient burial mounds that could be found all over the world. They are often filled with religious relics or what many humans consider treasures, such as gold and gems, symbolic or actual and these are used as places of meditation. My bell shaped forms are inspired by microscopic images of insect eggs, seeds and pollen. On the exterior they are finished with touches of silver and gold but the real treasure lies protected within, seeds from the forest. They are Alarm Bells. I see humans as integral beings with nature and yet so many live divorced from it. Our time on earth is very short and yet our technological advancements often seem to replace past wisdom instead of building on it and as a result so much has been lost. I like many others have grave concerns regarding the human impact on our planet and so in my practice, my aim is always to evoke curiosity and wonder at this beautiful world and a willingness to protect all within it.
