Trevor Carter bio
Originally from England, my parents moved out of London to Berkshire when I was born. My Father had a natural aptitude for drawing and painting, his love of colour and dimension filtered down to me and ultimately with his encouragement I developed a passion for art.
Like my Father, my career choices were led by my head and not my heart as a consequence art took a secondary place in my life but nevertheless a cornerstone in my life and ever present as a source of escape from the rigours and demands of my career. I have travelled extensively, both with my work and personally, as a consequence I have benefitted from the artistic stimulus that this has provided. I moved to Australia in 1989.
Education and experience
I completed my schooling to 'O' level standard in Art, Technical Drawing, English and History. Based on my interest in popular art, illustration and graphic novels, I intended to further my education at University, however an accident that significantly damaged my right hand closed this option off for several years.
Deciding to follow an alternative path, I commenced and subsequently completed a management traineeship with a Hotel and hospitality group. After some time I identified Retail as a broader opportunity for me and developed a successful career over the ensuing 30 years I took on senior leadership roles in international and national retail businesses. I have established business operations in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, UK and Australia.
I am now at a point in life that circumstances, combined with my vocational successes, allow me the opportunity to reignite and explore my first passion. In 2012 I started to experiment with sculpture and its various mediums, artistically I found the shift from 2D to 3D very natural, however the assortment of technical processes and engineering challenges prompted me to seek tuition. I enrolled at Nyora Studio Gallery, Eltham, in 2013. There under the tutor of Emmy Mavroidis BA of fine arts and Furniture Maker/Sculptor Aldo Bilotta. I have not only rediscovered my creative heart but also the endless possibilities of sculpture.
