Jo Jo Spook

JoJo Spook is a Nationally recognized artist born on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria residing in Robe, South Australia. JoJo is versatile in her use of mediums, including painting, welded metal sculpture, use of found objects and the manipulation of Ghostnets. JoJo has held over 60 solo shows and been selected for various exhibitions and received art prizes across the country. JoJo has many accolades under her belt including the completion of a Bachelor of Fine Art, Bachelor of Craft, Diploma of Education, and a Master of Visual Arts all from Monash University in Melbourne. Other achievements include receiving the Carclew Ministry of Arts award, Southern Ocean Art Prize, Kelpie Art Prize, Balnaves Sculpture Prize, Brand SA finalist and winner and the National Inspirational Education Teachers Award for her contribution to Arts Education ranking 13th in Australia. JoJo was included in the Contemporary Artists of Australia coffee table book and other publications and has made guest appearances on Coxy’s Big Break, Channel 31 Arts and the ABC.

JoJo has previously taught at Tafe in Melbourne and offers creative art workshops across the state at Arts festivals and events. JoJo teaches primary/secondary Art and Design & Technology  specializing in the use of her diverse set of skills and imbedding them into engaging curriculum programs. JoJo has developed her own program focusing on creating awareness about “Ocean Rubbish” that has been delivered to schools within the Limestone Coast of SA.

JoJo has completed many Youth /Art projects that have been funded by Councils and Arts foundations in SA, VIC, and NSW. In 2017 JoJo completed a residency with artist Sue Ryan founder of Ghostnets Australia, held in the Atherton tablelands of Queensland that included a 6-week tour in a motorhome, creating and painting her way to QLD and back travelling over 9000 km on her own.  

Recent highlights include being selected to exhibit at the National Heysen Sculpture Biennale and recent solo show at Wattlerange Regional gallery depicting her trip and use of environmental waste and Ghostnets.

In previous years JoJo has been a finalist in Art Trials sculpture prize in Portland and has Coordinated the Karatta Southern Ocean Art Prize, Robe SA for several years.In 2025 JoJo has Judged the Art Trails at Portland, and been a finalist at the Gippsland Sculpture Prize where in previous years has received the peoples choice award.
