Melissa Thomas short bio

Melissa Thomas

In the beginning Melissa would create art for loved ones, and passers by began to notice. Friends of friends wanted a piece of Melissa's work in their own homes and gardens. Emails began to flood in from strangers far and wide expressing interest in Melissa's work and asking for commissions. Capitalising on the opportunity Melissa's art became her full time job, creating charming and unique pieces inspired by the natural world. She uses a combination of stainless steel, mild steel and glass to ensure both durability and beauty in all her works.

Growing up in the Nillumbik Shire, Australia she fell in love with the vast untouched bushland, which became an integral part of her art journey. After graduating from Eltham College in 1992 Melissa studied tonal painting under David Moore for over 2 years, developing her skills in oil painting. With her wealth of experience and creativity she officially started her own business, Natural Inpostraions in 1994.

Melissa continues to work from the family owned workshop in Thomas Town, Victoria, Australia as well as occasionally working from her home studio.

Her experience and unique style has led to big commissions for the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne Zoo and many private and public works. Continuing to add charm and character all across the country, keeping the legacy of our great bushlands alive and beautiful.
