This sculpture plays on contrast. Light and heavy, natural and man-made, delicate and strong. My aim with this piece has been to bridge the gap between the natural and man made worlds. Creating a space where both can exist in equilibrium, providing a refuge for birds and insects. The minimalism of this design provides a different perspective from each angle where the stone and steel meet. I love working with stone and appreciate this craft and natural material. I used a combination of traditional techniques and modern practices to carve and shape the hand selected cold stream stone. Manipulating steel and reforming it into something soft and beautiful is a humbling experience. Building objects and spaces that evoke a sense of calm, curiosity and inspiration is important to me, emphasising nature through my designs. I hope this peice can settle somewhere nicely to be enjoyed by all.
