   Sculpture Description

clay dancing - The spines are long and sharp as knitting needles and threatening as they spin hanging from the ceiling. The heavy seed pods tilt up and down. As though in a dance, I observe their cadence and with hands I respond and weave in and out with strings of clay. I learn to avoid being poked and, like a potter on a wheel, a skeletal cylindrical form develops. We share a rhythm, and a trace emerges from a central spine – hanging like a stalactite, a cocoon, a nest. (Made from junctus acutus - regarded an invasive weed in Australia)
