Having modelled in clay several heads of different people over the last few years, I find it an enjoyable, interesting and challenging occupation to recreate what I see and try to capture the feeling and emotion at the time. I enjoy meeting people and also learning more about anatomy and the muscles of the face and neck. A small change in where you push the clay can make a big change in the expression of the piece. But I still find the more you learn the more you feel you don't know. One thing I feel I have learnt is that it is best to finish the work all in the one sitting, though often more time is needed then photos are very helpful, hopefully not losing too much of the spontaneity.
