The symbolism of the owl is ancient and represents wisdom and mystical knowledge. For me the owl also symbolises the unknown, a realm of both light and darkness. |Night Owl is a representation of this juxtaposition of light and darkness, of attraction and repulsion, of the familiar and the unknown. | I chose limestone as a medium because its light bone like appearance against the black backdrop of the night continues the theme of contrast. The glowing light filtered through the onyx, suggests a refuge from the encompassing darkness.
