   Sculpture Description

Phoenix Reflections is a joint collaboration between Michelle J Kowalczyk and Con Barbarkos. Inspired by the curving spirals of the original phoenix wood carving, this excellent metal welding created by Con, adds a twist of the contemporary to Michelle's traditional oil painting. There's more than one twist in the scroll work design and late at night when you pass this sculpture by, you may find that there's a phoenix glowing to light your way in the darkness. Like all phoenix's though, it burns brightly for only a short while before disappearing into the darkness of its ashes. Even in this contemporary world, a glimmer of fantasy exists and taunts us eerie in the night. Michelle is a practicing oil painting artist who specialized in botanical and mixed media art, while Con is a welder who creates everything from unique custom welding projects to gates. This is the first collaborative sculpture project for both Con and Michelle, who usually work alone in their studio and workshop. The challenge was a satisfying and successful experience where everyone brought a little of themselves to the project.
