   Sculpture Description

The inspiration for my sculptural work comes from the natural physical environment. My focus lies mainly with the evolution of the Earth’s surface revealed in the rugged and undulating silhouettes of coastlines. I am in awe of the stunning rock formations created initially by the volcanic eruptions as well as the faults and folds of geomorphological forces. Forms created in these ways are altered over time and acquire new profiles and surface texture as a result of the persistence of wind and water. In working with soft clay, itself a final product of the weathering processes of rock, I try to capture these qualities in my large pieces. My pieces are mainly hand formed and with this sculpture I have used the coiling process. It has been textured and glazed.
