A totally imaginary figure, I enjoyed modelling this traditional style depiction of youth and beauty in rough but richly textured raku clay. She is my classically based nude who wistfully contemplates life as she sits somewhat precariously on a rock or a cloud.  I admire the perfection and grace of the idealised and romanticised forms of the past masters of sculpture from centuries ago, and I hoped to convey something of those ethereal beauties. To me the realistic sculpted human form possesses the multiple conundrum of suggesting the soft and sensual roundness of the body, albeit in a hard, fired substance dredged from the earth that can potentially last a thousand years.
