“A Tree Called Garbage!”

‘A Tree Called Garbage’ earned its name only recently; the project has been an inspiration of mine for years, ever since I began collecting different categories of man-made non-biodegradable garbage, tossing & turning various concepts over in my mind: “How could an humble artist get across to the narcissists of today’s world a more poignant message on OUR environment being destroyed by the complete lack of regard and self-discipline and no doubt education? How could I get across a more meaningful message that would prick a global conscience? Did I need to combine emotional and physical shock tactics? So many have tried long before I first took up sculpture in USA in 2012/13, when my favourite themes were the ‘gentle art’ of flora and fauna ... Since the COVID-19 pandemic set in it seems the the media and others have taken up a kindergarten chanting of ‘poo’ wherever they can blurt it out. So! to emphasise the effects of what filthy and deadly influences we humans have on the world’s struggling environment I have specifically taken up my own ‘poo’ theme, portraying decaying & dead branches of an otherwise superbly ethereal tree, through the different coloured brown lavatory rolls covering them! Other decorative aspects of my ‘garbage tree’ represent the decadent practices of the average human being and his/her disregard for the earth’s future living balance, of life itself! I fear today’s global attitude is that it’s far easier to ‘poo’ anywhere and everywhere, even making ‘poo’ trees rather than digging deep to reawaken a sense of care and responsibility for the little we have left at the moment; our precious environment (represented by the ‘organic’ egg cartons contained in their contradictive plastic bubble), the world is disintegrating into ‘poo’ around us! Our earth needs not plastic or garbage trees but real trees; we must all) plant many more trees please! Listen up People: those bottle tops are already rattling the ghosts of time!
