Combining my fascination with forms, textures and patterns in nature and the human figure and condition this piece was inspired by the towering rock formations found at the end of the Castle Rocks walk in Munghorn Gap near Mudgee NSW. Representing how the layering of experiences over time shape us.

Judge's Comments Tina Wentcher Sculpture Prize

This careful arrangement of objects embodied a precarious vertebrae for me. I felt unsteady just standing in front of it. Maybe that’s what the nature world is trying to communicate with us, just stand still for a moment regain ones balance again. Who knows, but the patina from the oxidation glistens a beautiful blue hue as it stands as a monument totem. A wonderful abstract form inspired by nature.

Assessor's Comments - Heritage Tools Award

This year we have a donation of woodcarving tools from long term member Fay Gerber who has retired from sculpture practice at nearly 101. The award was decided by an expression of interest process.

We received five expressions of interest for the tools, all of which were worthy and deserving. it was very difficult to choose from them.

I looked at those who are carving wood, who already have tools, the purposes they would all like to use them for and the work they had in the exhibition.

I decided that Christiana Octigan showed perhaps the greatest possibility of getting the best use of the tools, although they all would have qualified in various ways.
