Lola Pinata

A creatively joyous life is my mutiny against the craziness of the world…'Lola Pinata' is the Angel of winged friends. A playful Mexican styled garden Angel, a beacon welcoming all visitors. Her head houses a wee birdbath to quench the birds, bees and butterflies, blessing them as they meander through your garden. A water plant can be housed within the bowl to create a blossomy headdress. Constructed from recovered materials: fragments of once useful items that each have their own stories and history have been repurposed into something new, whimsical and rather lovely. The mirrored elements add another layer, by reflecting the surrounds and you, the viewer into the piece. She has a hand painted porcelain face and wings fashioned from offcuts of canvas, wool, and paint. She has been coated with protective finishes on all surfaces, to help her endure the elements. Her wings can be removed for winter if you wish by simply unhooking the O rings attached to the cup handles on her back. I love to make Art. Joyous whimsical unexpected ART. Art that tickles and wakens the spirit within, that forgotten teeny inner child spirit that wants to frolic and play. This is my mutinous action in a world that squeezes and pushes to dampen love down…I hope my luscious use of colour, texture and naïve style bring an absolute smile to your heart.

Lola Piñata is an exuberant and generous work, rich with colour, texture and delight. Its playful spirit is matched by a thoughtful use of recovered and handmade materials, which bring depth, history and individuality to the piece. There is real joy in its making, but also care in the way it welcomes birds, bees and butterflies into the garden. It is whimsical, layered and full of life.
