Mythology states that the phoenix goes back in many versions since the beginning of recorded history. My ancient Greek version is symbolic of the rebirth of the Phoenix from the burnt out ashes that are said to rise every 500 years, suggesting ongoing hope and immortatlity. I wanted some of the character of age through the worn smooth "feathers" of the later water water submerged Huon Pine, it's smooth tactile exterior to be embraced and revered because of the woods' exclusiveness.
