I have been practising blacksmithing since 2000. In recent years I decided to use some of the techniques I developed making medieval armour to create metal sculptures. I am innately drawn to working with steel and enjoy some of the challenges it poses but also the ability to produce a myriad of finishes to its surface and thereby proving a versatile medium for sculptures. At the moment I am exploring/creating mythical creatures, the Chinese Dragon is one them.
Judges' Comments Highly Commended in the 2022 Tina Wentcher Sculpture Prize
From creating medieval armour to exploring mythical creatures. A blacksmith turned sculptor…. adapting existing skills to new ventures. The level of skill to produce the scales on this dragon is commendable.
