I’ve always been drawn to patterns and colour, particularly in nature. Fungi is one of the current obsessions in my art practice. I hope to capture likenesses of this infinitely diverse and beautiful ephemeral life form; the earth’s great recycling system. My work is also informed by the mathematics that underlies the natural world: the fractals of chaos theory and the Fibonacci sequence. It is easy, and obvious when we get it ‘wrong’, representing what appears chaotic in nature but is actually informed by physics and maths eg: the angle of mushroom stems or the scatter pattern of mushroom caps.
