Rising Tides features three hand-carved timber seagulls (huon pine) perched on tall poles emerging from the ocean. Crafted from timber and stone the work balances strength with a sense of movement, echoing the resilience and beauty of nature. This piece continues my exploration of connection to the Australian landscape and its animals, particularly the coastline, and speaks to the urgent need to protect the places we love.
Judge's Comments for Andor Meszaros Sculpture Prize
This piece particularly resonated with our co-judge, Michael Meszaros, it told a really nice personal story for him. I enjoyed the superb craftsmanship of this work and the clever use of materials to tell each layer of the story.
