There once were ….My sculpture speaks of our place on this wonderful planet. The Blackwood timber base form represents evolved life, incorporating a variety of animal forms in the legs, with the timber itself representing plant life. This combination supports the world above. Our place is aspirationally within the confines of our bustling cities and towns, separated from the ever decreasing natural world which is undeniably at a crisis point. By turning the handle we become participants in a sculptural representation of this, but alone cannot see all, we need a second participant to fully comprehend.
Judge's Comments for the Mal Wood Foundry Prize:
I selected this because of its absolutely superb craftsmanship. I loved the fact that the viewer can activate the work. I also liked that there were many layers to the story.
