This clay bust of Layla captures the quiet strength and gentle grace of youth. Her smooth features convey a sense of serenity, while the simple bun that gathers her hair suggests both refinement and restraint. In sculpting her, I aimed to portray the balance between vulnerability and composure that defines this moment in her life. The integrated clay stand elevates her and the metallic paint and patina finish contrasts with the off-white and light grey colours of the bust above. I have been sculpting since 2019, working primarily in clay, and this is an early piece that was finished recently in 2025. My practice is rooted in the figurative, drawing inspiration from real people and the universal experience of being human. With this piece, I invite viewers to contemplate the radiance and fragility of youth.
