Artist’s Statement: Using alternative firing techniques allows me to create unique and inspired pieces. Oil firing with recycled oils in conjunction burnishing and terra sigillata are combined in this work “Egg on a Plinth”. Since being introduced to alternative firing techniques in the early 80’s I have continued with my exploration into collaborating with fire to create my pieces. Using glazes and oil firing in a geometric construction and the surface treatment, straight lines, blocks of colour in conjunction with random crazing gives a dynamic to the forms.There is an intimacy through heat that gives me a very tangible connection to each of the pieces I create.
