Artist’s Statement: World Turtle By Sue Smales “World Turtle” represents an ancient creation myth associated to many of our world’s cultures. Some say Earth grew on the turtle’s back, others say it was scooped from the sea (which was said to be all that existed at the time) or it just is, what it is. My sculpture is also a metaphor for life’s tragedies and hardships. ‘The turtle carries the weight of the world on its shoulders.’ A popular legend, that is still narrated in many ways in modern day.
