Over the years, I have blended my clinical work as a psychotherapist with my artistic practice. Using figurative sculpture and an increasing variety of media (terracotta clay, limestone, soapstone, plaster and more recently marble) , I have been exploring the range of human emotion and the essence of the human subject through realistic and abstract portrayals. My influences range from Neolithic and prehistoric art to Michelangelo, Rodin, Henry Moore and Brancusi, classical philosophy and Western Psychology. Using sculpture, importantly as a nonverbal visual medium, I attempt to understand and explore the degree of separateness and connectedness in human relationships and in particular between the primal mother figure and the “other”, within which humans have existed, and continue to exist over the millennia.
